Pearl of TradesDatabento Review - Pearl of TradesGrounded web searchOur take: Databento is the modern, developer-first answer to market data. Clean cloud-native APIs, an impressive ~6μs normalization latency, 99.99% uptime and officially licensed data from CME, ICE, CBOT, NYMEX and COMEX — with full order book, trades and quotes — make it a favourite of quants who want to pull exactly what they need in minutes, on transparent usage-based pricing (from ~$199/mo).

Independent mentions

  • databento provides high-quality market-by-order data at a reasonable price, so a... — databento provides high-quality market-by-order data at a reasonable price, so at least I can play with the data, though I'm unsure about actual trading. That's why people including me like crypto. from what I understand, databento is just aggregating exchange data. They must have some deal for processed data. Their MBO data is not cheap and they don't have much history. I would not trust their bars without a whitepaper documenting how they clean each market.
  • Is there a similar source you're aware of, cheap with a clean API? Hated to lose... — I've been happy with Databento as a low-friction way to get market data. I liked it so much, I ported their structs and APIs to Golang. 1 ... Their EQUS Mini dataset is a great way to dip the toe if you want live data without licensing restrictions. Databento's article talks exactly about how it is sourced, but it is not that it is averaged but anonymized, specifically because of the complexities of upstream exchange licensing. 2
