In simple English
This project gives you downloadable files that match internet internet protocol addresses to countries, cities and network names. You can use these files to find out where your website visitors come from. The files update automatically every single day. Some files are free to use without any credit required. Other files come from different providers and carry their own rules.
What it is
A collection of regularly updated geolocation datasets packaged in standard CSV and MMDB formats for offline lookups. It aggregates public routing archives and regional registry statistics to build permissive country and network databases.
What it is good for
Solo builders who need to geo-locate website visitors, block specific countries, or analyze server traffic without paying for a commercial service.
- Updated daily from open routing archives and public registries.
- Available in both simple CSV and fast MMDB database formats.
- Includes permissive options that do not require attribution.
- Requires writing or using existing code to query the files.
- Larger city databases need several hundred megabytes of disk space.
- Different source files carry different licences that you must follow.
