In simple English
This tool lets you check and edit your calendar inside a black text window on your computer. You can type short commands to add new meetings or browse your schedule for the week. It does not run on Windows, and you cannot change event timezones inside the tool yet. It costs nothing to download and uses very little memory on your computer.
What it is
Khal is a calendar application (a program that shows dates, times, and events) that you run from your CLI (a text window where you type commands instead of clicking with a mouse). It reads and writes standard calendar files on your computer and can sync them with online servers.
What it is good for
This is good for solo builders who live in the terminal and want to check their schedule without opening a heavy web browser. It removes the need for graphical calendar apps when you just want a fast view of your day.
- Fast to load and uses very little memory on your server or laptop.
- Works directly with standard calendar files stored on your local disk.
- Includes an interactive mode to browse and edit events with simple keyboard shortcuts.
- Does not run on Microsoft Windows operating systems.
- Cannot edit the timezones of events yet, which can cause mix-ups across regions.
- Requires a separate sync tool to connect with online calendar services like Google or iCloud.
