OptionWorkstation. Local options research and replay workstation.

In simple English

This tool helps you test options trading strategies on your own computer. It plays back historical market data frame by frame or connects to live feeds. It calculates volatility, risk, and pricing models without hiding data gaps. It also includes strict safety guards before running any paper trades. You need your own historical or live market data feeds to make it work.

What it is

OptionWorkstation is a self-hosted research and paper-trading workstation built with a Rust backend and a React (a JavaScript library for building user interfaces) frontend. It combines historical data replay, volatility surface modeling, and risk calculations into a single local web interface.

What it is good for

Solo traders and researchers who want to replay past option market days step by step, study implied volatility without hidden approximations, and test multi-leg option strategies on local hardware.

Good
  • Replays historical options data frame by frame to prevent using future information by mistake.
  • Calculates Greeks, volatility surfaces, and dealer exposure locally using Rust.
  • Includes strict safety checks and requires explicit confirmation words before placing any paper trade.
Watch for
  • Requires technical skill to set up local Parquet (a columnar storage file format) data files and API credentials.
  • Consumes significant memory and CPU when processing large options chains and volatility models.
  • Does not include market data; you must bring your own paid data subscriptions.
