In simple English
Journedge is a private journal for active stock, options, and futures traders. It collects your trades, calculates your profits, and points out behavioural mistakes like revenge trading. Your financial records stay entirely on your own computer in a local database file. You do not pay any subscription fees because the software is free and open source. Setting it up requires a little technical skill with command-line tools.
What it is
An institutional-grade trading journal built as a self-hosted Next.js web application using SQLite and Prisma. It parses broker exports, manages strategy playbooks, and runs an analytics engine with risk metrics entirely client-side.
What it is good for
Active day traders and swing traders who want advanced performance analytics and risk controls without paying monthly fees to commercial software services or sending sensitive trade histories to third-party cloud servers.
- Keeps all trade data and journal entries securely on your local machine using SQLite.
- Supports automatic import from major brokers including Fidelity, Charles Schwab, and Interactive Brokers.
- Includes a rich analytics suite with drawdown tracking, execution efficiency, and hourly performance heatmaps.
- Requires Node.js and basic terminal knowledge to install and run locally.
- Lacks automatic cloud synchronisation between different computers by design.
- Relies on manual CSV exports from your broker since there is no live API brokerage feed.
