What it is
An invoicing application built on Symfony and PHP. It covers clients, quotes, invoices, recurring billing on a schedule, multiple currencies and taxes, eight PDF templates, automatic overdue detection, two-factor login, and online payment through Stripe and PayPal. It also exposes an interface for other programs to use.
What it is good for. A freelancer or a small team currently invoicing from a spreadsheet and a word processor. The value is not the PDF — it is that quotes become invoices without retyping, recurring clients bill themselves, and overdue ones are flagged without anyone remembering to look. Hosted services do this for a monthly fee and hold the client list.
- MIT, read from the LICENSE file, with no conditions at all. That is the exception in this category: the two best-known alternatives are either source-available or keep useful features behind paid modules.
- Quotes convert to invoices, and recurring billing runs on a schedule, which is the part that actually saves time.
- A modern stack for a fourteen-year-old codebase — Symfony 7.1 and PHP 8.4 — and card payment through Stripe and PayPal is built in rather than bolted on.
- The obvious installation route gives an outdated version. The PHP package registry still lists 2.2.6 from 6 May 2024, two major versions behind the 3.0.1 released on 23 June 2026. Installing with Composer lands you on a two-year-old release. Use the container image, the Homebrew tap, or a tagged release.
- The 3.0 line is new and it rebuilt the tax system. Version 3.0.0 arrived in June 2026 with a tax overhaul covering multiple taxes, invoice-level tax and frozen snapshots. On software that produces the documents you bill clients with, test the tax figures and the PDF output against invoices you have already sent before trusting it.
- 129 open issues and 52 open pull requests against about 970 stars is a very wide queue, and releases come from one author, so expect slow review. A real installation also needs an external database, a certificate, a mail service for sending invoices, and PHP kept patched. From source it needs PHP 8.4 with seven extensions.
