In simple English
This tool records what happens on your screen and turns it into a polished demonstration video. It automatically zooms in when you click, follows your mouse pointer, and adds subtitles. You do not need an internet connection or a paid subscription to use it. All your video files stay safe on your own computer. It is an open-source alternative to expensive commercial recording software.
What it is
Capptivo is a desktop recorder and video editor built with Rust and React using the Tauri framework (a tool for building small, fast desktop apps using web technologies). It captures your screen natively on each operating system, tracks your cursor movements at sixty frames per second, and lets you add zooms, background frames, and captions before exporting the final video.
What it is good for
Solo builders and creators who need to record product demos or tutorials for social media, documentation, or launches without paying monthly subscription fees for specialized software.
- Completely free and open source under the MIT licence.
- Runs natively on macOS, Windows, and Linux without sending your recordings to the cloud.
- Includes automatic click-based zooming and on-device speech-to-text captions.
- Requires installing Node, Corepack, and Rust if you want to build it from source.
- macOS builds are currently unsigned, so you must right-click the app to open it the first time.
- Linux screen area selection is not available yet, so you must crop your recordings inside the editor.
