← Audio and video

In simple English

This is a video calling tool that you can run on your own servers. It gives you a clean web page for group calls, screen sharing and chat. You can invite people with a web link, just like Zoom or Google Meet. The French government uses it for their own public services. It is free to use under an open-source licence, but you need some technical skill to set it up.

What it is

La Suite Meet is an open-source video conferencing web application built on top of the LiveKit (a system for real-time audio and video over the internet) media server. It combines a Django (a Python framework for building web apps quickly) backend with a React (a JavaScript library for building user interfaces) frontend to provide browser-based video calls.

What it is good for

Solo builders and organizations who want a self-hosted video conferencing platform without paying for commercial SaaS subscriptions. It removes reliance on third-party tools while giving you full ownership of your meeting infrastructure.

Good
  • No installation required for participants, who join directly from any modern web browser.
  • Built on a powerful real-time media engine that handles large meetings with over one hundred people.
  • Includes modern features such as screen sharing, meeting recording and chat.
Watch for
  • Requires setting up a separate media server infrastructure alongside the main application.
  • Advanced features like transcription and recording still lack complete documentation.
  • Deployment requires experience with Docker (a way to run a program inside its own sealed box, so it cannot break anything else on your server) or Kubernetes (a system for running and scaling containerized applications across many servers).
