In simple English
This tool searches for files and folders on your computer. It acts as a faster, simpler replacement for the standard find command. It ignores hidden folders and gitignore files by default so you get clean results. It runs much faster by checking many folders at the same time. It costs nothing and runs directly on your own machine.
What it is
fd is a command-line tool written in Rust that scans your file system for names, extensions, or patterns. It uses sensible defaults and colorful output to make searching quick and painless.
What it is good for
Anyone who uses the command line and wants to find files without typing long, complex search commands.
- Much faster than the standard find command on large folders.
- Ignores hidden files and gitignore entries out of the box.
- Supports simple text patterns and powerful regular expressions.
- Requires comfort with the command line terminal.
- Does not support every advanced feature of the traditional find utility.
- Needs a quick package manager install or cargo build.
