Markdown powered Knowledgebase Wiki for Node.js

← Content and publishing
Raneto: knowledge base wiki. Turns plain text files into a clean website.

In simple English

This tool lets you build a help center or guide site without using a database. You write your pages in plain text files using Markdown (a simple way to format text with symbols like hashes and asterisks). It saves your files directly on your server so you do not need complex hosting or database setup. You can invite people to log in and edit the pages straight from their web browser. It costs nothing to run, though you need a server to host it and a little time to set up Node.js (a system that lets you run JavaScript outside of a web browser).

What it is

Raneto is an open-source knowledge base and wiki powered by Node.js. It stores all its data as plain text files on disk and features a built-in search engine and web editor.

What it is good for

Solo builders and small teams who want to host their own documentation or user guides without relying on expensive third-party services.

Good
  • Stores every page as a plain text file so you can back it up or move it easily.
  • Includes a built-in search bar that looks through file names and text contents.
  • Lets you edit pages directly inside your web browser if you turn on the editor option.
Watch for
  • Requires Node.js installed on your server to run properly.
  • Has several open bug reports that may need your attention if you run into trouble.
  • Needs manual configuration of environment variables for security and user logins.
Replaces

Works well with
