In simple English

This tool connects to your email provider and sorts your messages. You write rules to delete, move or tag mail automatically. It runs on your computer or server on a schedule. You need to know a little programming to write the rules. It is free and open source.

What it is

IMAPFilter is a mail filtering utility that connects to remote mail servers using IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol, a set of rules for email programs to fetch messages from a server). It uses the Lua programming language (a lightweight programming language designed for extending applications) to let you write custom filters.

What it is good for

Solo builders who want to clean up an overflowing inbox without relying on webmail rules or third-party cloud services will find this useful.
