In simple English
Writing computer programs can lead to simple mistakes and bad habits. This tool reads your source code before you run it. It points out hidden bugs, unused variables, and style slips. It runs many different checking programs at the same time to save you time. You can run it on your own computer or set it up to check your code automatically every time you save.
What it is
golangci-lint (a command-line tool that runs many code checking programs at once for the Go programming language) bundles over a hundred individual checks into a single fast runner. It caches previous results so it only checks parts of your code that changed.
What it is good for
Solo builders writing software in Go who want to catch silly mistakes before users find them, without having to run ten different checking tools by hand.
- Runs over a hundred code checks in parallel so it finishes fast.
- Caches results to make repeated checks even faster.
- Works with all major text editors and development environments.
- Requires you to have the Go programming language installed on your computer.
- Can produce too many warnings at first until you configure which checks to run.
- Licenced under GPL-3.0 (a licence that requires you to share your source code if you distribute modified versions of the tool).
