In simple English
When your web server or app runs, it writes down everything it does in text files called logs. If something breaks, you need to search through those files to find the bug. VictoriaLogs is a fast database designed specifically to hold all those lines of text. It does not require you to define a rigid structure for your data before you save it. It takes very little computer memory and handles massive amounts of log data without slowing down.
What it is
VictoriaLogs is an open-source, schema-free database written in the Go programming language (a compiled language built for speed and concurrency). It collects, indexes, and lets you query text logs efficiently from single servers or large clusters.
What it is good for
Solo builders and developers who need to collect and search server logs in one place without setting up heavy, complex search clusters.
- Uses very little memory compared to traditional log search tools.
- Does not require a predefined schema, so you can send any log format straight to it.
- Includes a built-in web user interface for searching and exploring logs quickly.
- Requires running a separate database service alongside your main application.
- Needs enough disk space to store your log files as your application grows.
- Learning a new query language for searching logs takes time.
