Portabase/portabase

Portabase - Database backup & restore tool for PostgreSQL, MySQL, MsSQL, MariaDB, Firebird SQL, SQLite, MongoDB, Redis and Docker Volume

← Running in production
Portabase: multi-database backup manager. Web dashboard for database backups and Docker volumes.

In simple English

Your databases hold your most important data, but writing backup scripts is tedious. Portabase gives you a web page to manage backups for PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite, MongoDB and other popular databases. You can schedule regular snapshots and restore them with a click. It runs on your own server, so your database credentials stay under your control. It is free and open-source under the Apache 2.0 licence.

What it is

Portabase is a self-hosted database backup and restore manager built with TypeScript and Docker. It connects to a helper agent to run backups securely across different servers.

What it is good for

Solo builders who manage multiple databases across servers and want a single web dashboard to schedule backups and restore data without writing custom cron scripts.

Good
  • Supports nine popular database engines and Docker volumes in one tool.
  • Provides a clean web dashboard for manual backups and scheduled snapshots.
  • Keeps your data and credentials on your own server under an open-source licence.
Watch for
  • Requires Docker (a way to run a program inside its own sealed box, so it cannot break anything else on your server) to be installed first.
  • Managing multiple server agents adds complexity compared to a simple local script.
  • Does not support restoring Redis or Valkey backups directly from the panel.
Replaces

manual bash scripts and cron jobs for database dumps

Works well with

Docker (a way to run a program inside its own sealed box, so it cannot break anything else on your server) and PostgreSQL (a popular open-source SQL database)
