Tracking and reporting for IT and related assets and configuration

← Running in production
Open-AudIT: network inventory tool. Tracks network assets and configurations.

In simple English

This tool scans your home or office network to find every computer, printer and router connected to it. It records what software is installed and how each machine is configured. You can view all of this through a web page and check when things change. It costs nothing in money, but you need a server or local machine to run it and time to configure network scanners. There is also a paid enterprise version if you want official support.

What it is

Open-AudIT is a network discovery and asset tracking application written in PHP and bash. It queries Windows and Linux systems using scripts, alongside Nmap (a tool for probing networks to find active hosts) and SNMP (a protocol for monitoring network devices), storing everything in a database.

What it is good for

System administrators and solo builders who want a complete inventory of every piece of hardware and software on their network without paying for commercial asset management software.

  • Discovers all active devices on your local network automatically.
  • Tracks software, hardware, and configuration changes over time.
  • Provides a web interface and API (a way for other programs to request data) to query your inventory.
Watch for
  • Requires installing several system packages like a database and web server to run properly from source.
  • Windows installation requires setting up external dependencies manually.
  • Uses the AGPL-3.0 licence, which has strict rules if you modify the code and offer it as a service.
