In simple English
This repository holds official add-ons for the Hermes AI assistant. It includes tools for smart homes, music players, security scanners, and browser controls. You install only the specific plugins you need, so your setup stays small and fast. The project is maintained by Nous Research and uses the MIT licence. You do not pay anything to download it, but some plugins need paid service accounts.
What it is
A collection of official plugins for Hermes Agent, packaged in a single repository. Each directory is a self-contained add-on that adds tools, model providers, or terminal backends to the main assistant.
What it is good for
Anyone using Hermes Agent who wants to connect their assistant to smart home devices, music playback, security tools, or specialized terminal sandboxes without bloating the core program.
Summary (Key Points)from the README
Key features
- One repo, one directory per plugin: Every first-party Nous Research plugin lives here, and each directory is a complete Hermes plugin.
- Pinned to reviewed commits: Catalog entries point to a reviewed commit, so an update moves you only when a new pin passes review.
- Sparse installs: Hermes fetches only the chosen plugin's directory with a blobless sparse clone, so installing Spotify never downloads Home Assistant.
- Large tool sets: Spotify adds seven tools, Meshy 28 tools and REA about 170 tools, loaded on demand.
- Smart home and messaging: Home Assistant adds a gateway platform with four tools, and X Chat provides end-to-end encrypted DMs with mention gating in group chats.
- Sandboxed terminals: The Singularity/Apptainer and Bubblewrap backends run terminal and code commands inside rootless containers or bwrap sandboxes on the local machine.
- Observability: Langfuse traces each turn, LLM call and tool call, with usage and cost, and sanitizes content by default.
- Cross-platform testing: Every plugin is tested against current Hermes core on Linux, macOS and Windows on every push and pull request, with a nightly run.
Ways to install
| Platform or method | What it needs | Effort |
|---|---|---|
| Catalog install: `hermes plugins install <name>` | Hermes Agent installed | One command |
| Hermes Desktop: Capabilities → Plugins | Hermes Desktop with the same catalog | Point and select |
| Local checkout: `hermes plugins install ./spotify --force` | A clone of this repo | Clone, then one command |
Important
- Subscriptions and credits: Spotify playback control needs Spotify Premium, and Meshy needs a Pro plan and an API key.
- Experimental plugin: Claude Subscription DirectSDK is marked experimental and drives the logged-in `claude` binary; it refuses with an install hint when Claude Code is missing.
- Platform limits: Singularity/Apptainer and Bubblewrap are Linux only, and TouchDesigner runs on macOS or Windows only.
- Trusted code only: Blender's tools run Python inside Blender, so use trusted workflows.
- Extra tooling: REA needs Node.js 22.19+, and native decompilation needs your own Ghidra, Hopper or IDA. Snyk needs Node.js/npm and a free account.
- Account setup: X Chat needs an X developer app with chat API access, and Camofox needs a running camofox-browser server.
- Version gate: Advanced Delegation requires Hermes 0.22.5 or later.
- Host file tools: With Bubblewrap, `read_file`, `write_file`, `patch` and `search_files` run on the host, outside the sandbox.
- Manual client change: After installing MCP Serve, you must change your MCP client's args from `["mcp", "serve"]` to `["mcp-serve"]` yourself.
- Archived repos: The old standalone repos are archived and receive no new fixes, so reinstall from the catalog with `--force`.
