Visual testing catches unintended changes to how a UI looks by comparing new screenshots with approved baselines and letting a team review the differences. Hosted platforms include Percy, Chromatic, Applitools, Argos, Happo, TestMu AI SmartUI, Vizzly and Pixeleye for components and pages, Diffy for whole websites, and Ghost Inspector as part of broader browser testing. On the open-source side, Argos and Visual Regression Tracker give you a self-hosted review platform, BackstopJS, reg-suit, Testplane and Creevey run visual tests, Swift Snapshot Testing covers iOS, and jest-image-snapshot, pixelmatch and odiff are building blocks. Marks come from vendor pricing pages and project READMEs as of 19 October 2026; nothing was tested hands-on.
