In simple English
This tool lets you resize, crop and convert images on the fly. You send an image URL with parameters in the web address, and the server returns the processed image. It is designed to run on your own server, so your users get fast pictures without slowing down your main app. It is free to run under an open licence. You need a server to host it and some basic knowledge of Docker.
What it is
This is the open-source software behind wsrv.nl. It combines nginx (a web server) and libvips (a library for fast image manipulation) into a single package.
What it is good for
Solo builders who need to serve responsive images across different devices without paying for a commercial image CDN.
- Processes images very quickly using low memory.
- Accepts simple web URLs to resize and convert images on demand.
- Runs easily inside a Docker container.
- Requires an external server with Docker installed.
- Needs careful firewall setup if exposed directly to the public internet.
- No built-in user interface for managing images.
