In simple English
Sure is a place to track all your money on your own computer or server. You can see your bank accounts, investments, and spending in one dashboard. It is a community-run version of an older app that stopped working. You run it yourself for free, so you do not pay a monthly fee. You need some technical skill to set it up and keep it running.
What it is
Sure is an open-source wealth management dashboard built with Ruby (a programming language for web applications) and PostgreSQL (a system for storing data in tables). It is a community-maintained continuation of the abandoned Maybe Finance project.
What it is good for
Solo builders who want to track their personal finances on a private server without sending their bank data to a third-party company.
- Keeps all your financial data on your own server.
- Includes charts for cash flow, net worth, and spending.
- Active community keeping the abandoned project alive.
- Requires technical knowledge to set up with Docker or command-line tools.
- Needs a PostgreSQL database and Redis (a fast memory store for temporary data) to run.
- Known performance issues with large datasets that require community debugging.
