In simple English
This tool resizes, crops and converts images on the fly through simple web links. You can point it at a local folder or a list of remote websites, and it will serve pictures in whatever size and format your visitors need. It protects your server by capping maximum dimensions and blocking unsafe web addresses. It is free to use and runs on your own server or inside your Node.js application.
What it is
IPX is a high-performance image optimization server powered by sharp and svgo. It takes image requests with URL-based modifiers, processes the files instantly, and returns them in formats like WebP or AVIF.
What it is good for
Solo builders who want to serve responsive images without paying for a commercial image CDN. It removes the need to manually pre-generate dozens of image sizes for every upload.
- Processes images on the fly via clean URL parameters.
- Supports automatic format negotiation for modern browsers.
- Can be run as a standalone command-line tool or embedded in an existing server.
- Requires a JavaScript runtime environment on your server.
- Heavy image operations can consume significant processor and memory resources.
- Security rules for remote domains must be configured carefully to avoid abuse.
