Planka: self-hosted kanban. Project tracking board for your server.

In simple English

Planka is a visual project board for your server. You can create lists of tasks and move cards across columns as work gets done. It looks and acts like Trello, but you run it yourself. You keep control of all your data on your own hardware. The community edition is free to run, and a paid pro version adds extra views.

What it is

Planka is a real-time Kanban board application built with JavaScript and Docker (a way to run a program inside its own sealed box, so it cannot break anything else on your server). It stores your projects and cards in a database that you control.

What it is good for

Solo builders and small teams who want a clean task board on their own server without paying a monthly fee to an outside service.

Good
  • Runs on your own server, so your data stays private.
  • Updates in real time without needing to refresh the page.
  • Supports markdown (a simple way to format text using plain symbols like hashes and asterisks) for rich card descriptions.
Watch for
  • Requires Docker and a database setup on your server.
  • Advanced views like calendars and timelines need the paid Pro version.
  • Custom licence limits how you can resell or redistribute the software.
