go-vikunja/vikunja

The task manager you actually own.

← Building the product
Vikunja: self-hosted tasks. Task manager that you run on your own server.

In simple English

You can run this task manager on your own server instead of renting a cloud service. It keeps all your todo lists and projects stored safely on hardware you control. You can access it through a web browser or a mobile app to check off daily tasks. The software is free to run, but you need to spend time setting up and maintaining the server. If you want someone else to manage the server, they also sell a paid hosted version.

What it is

Vikunja is an open-source task management platform written in Go (a programming language built by Google for fast, reliable network services) and Vue.js (a JavaScript framework for building interactive user interfaces in web browsers). It provides lists, kanban boards, and reminders that you host yourself.

What it is good for

Solo builders who want complete control over their productivity data and refuse to rely on commercial subscription apps.

Good
  • Runs entirely on your own server so your task data stays private.
  • Offers multiple views like lists and kanban boards for your projects.
  • Includes an API (a set of rules that lets different software programs talk to each other) to build custom integrations.
Watch for
  • Requires server administration knowledge to install and keep updated.
  • Needs a database and reverse proxy configured on your server to run smoothly.
  • Licensed under AGPL-3.0 (a strict open-source licence requiring you to share your code if you modify it and offer it as a network service).
