In simple English
This tool resizes, crops, and changes images on the fly through web addresses. You run it on your own server as a small helper application. It processes pictures much faster than older tools and uses less memory. You control the server, so you pay only for your own hosting costs. There are no monthly fees.
What it is
Imagor is a fast image processing server and Go library built on top of libvips (a fast image processing library written in C). It accepts HTTP requests with specific size or filter instructions in the web address and returns the modified image.
What it is good for
Solo builders who need to resize user uploads, generate social media preview images, or convert pictures to modern formats like WebP and AVIF without slowing down their main application server.
- Processes images significantly faster than older tools while using less RAM.
- Accepts image parameters directly in the web address for easy integration.
- Supports modern image formats like AVIF, WebP, and JPEG-XL.
- Requires Docker or Go knowledge to set up and run on a server.
- Needs careful configuration of access tokens to prevent strangers from abusing your server's CPU.
- Memory use can spike if many large images are processed at the exact same time.
