In simple English
Your email inbox fills up with spam and newsletters every day. This tool is a browser extension that sits inside Gmail. It scans your incoming mail to show who sends you the most messages. You can then unsubscribe from many senders at once and delete their old emails. It runs right inside your browser so your data stays on your machine and costs nothing to use.
What it is
InboxWhiz is an open-source browser extension that adds a side panel to Gmail for mass unsubscribing and cleanup. It uses TypeScript (a programming language that adds safety checks to JavaScript, which makes code more reliable) and runs entirely client-side.
What it is good for
Solo builders and busy founders who want to clean out years of accumulated mailing lists and newsletters from their Gmail inbox without paying for a commercial cleaning service.
- Processes all email data locally in your browser for privacy.
- Runs right inside the Gmail interface without separate logins.
- Open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 (GPL-3.0, a licence that requires anyone who shares modified versions to also share their source code).
- Requires building from source or installing from the Chrome Web Store if you do not want to compile code.
- Relies on browser automation which can break if Google updates the Gmail web interface.
- Only works in Google Chrome and compatible browsers that support Manifest V3 extensions.
